At the heart of Hello Neighbor is a team of dedicated volunteers working to create a more welcoming Pittsburgh.

At Hello Neighbor, we welcome individuals, couples, families, churches, synagogues and other places of worship, and local businesses to be volunteers!

You can impact our work here in Pittsburgh in enormous ways. Hello Neighbor is always looking for volunteers to help us address the needs of our refugee and immigrant neighbors. We are looking for people who are excited to contribute to our amazing community and grow our Hello Neighbor family!

Interested in getting involved on a more consistent basis? You can also apply to be a mentor.

Volunteer Opportunities

Hello Neighbor is always looking for volunteers to help us with a number of tasks. Whether you are volunteering as a group or as an individual, we have a place for you!

For Groups

Organize a Donation Drive: If you’re interested in hosting a donation drive, please contact our Direct Services Coordinator, Calli White, at calli@helloneighbor.io. Our list of currently accepted donations can be found here.

  • Please note that we do not accept shoes, clothing outside of winter coats, books for high school aged children and above, and drinkware or dinnerware. All furniture donations must be approved, please email calli@helloneighbor.io for clarification.

Host a Documentary or Film: Are you a part of a church group or other organization that would like to host a documentary or film for Hello Neighbor? Contact us at info@helloneighbor.io

For Individuals

In Office Support: As Hello Neighbor has transitioned to accepting donations, we need help organizing, packaging, and sanitizing the items we receive. Keep an eye out for these opportunities in our Volunteer Newsletter!

Event Support: Volunteer at any of our Distributions. We always need help with set-up, clean-up, and other tasks. Take a look at our events page to see what’s coming up and how you can get involved.

Delivery Support: Many of our Hello Neighbor families do not have transportation to take them to our Distributions. In order to make sure they get the items they need, we need help delivering to them. Opportunities to deliver will be sent out in our Volunteer Newsletter.

  • Note: Act 33 and 34 clearances are required. For more information on how to obtain clearances, please email Calli White, Direct Services Coordinator, at calli@helloneighbor.io.

New Mom Support: We have a number of new moms in our program who are pregnant with or caring for their first baby born in America! Can you support by providing a meal, answering questions, or sitting with them once a week for the first month? Learn more about our Smart Start Refugee Moms and Children Program and how to get involved.

Remote Opportunities

Amazon Wishlist and Walmart Registry: Our families need help accessing essential items for their families during this challenging time. Help us support them by purchasing items off our Amazon and Walmart lists!

Meal Train Donation: Our moms enrolled in the Smart Start Refugee Moms and Children receive a Meal Train for one month after their baby is born. These drop offs are done in person, but a remote way to help moms is to donate a meal instead! You can donate here, adding a comment that says “New Mom Meal Train.”

If you are excited by any of these opportunities, or have other ideas for ways to support refugee families alongside Hello Neighbor, we would love to hear from you! Complete the form below or contact info@helloneighbor.io.

Stay Up To Date With Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities
