<article class="content"> <p>Welcome to the Valentine&#8217;s Day Edition of our new and popular Hello Neighbor New Neighbor Cookie Table program! This is a perfect feel good Valentine’s Day gift for yourself, for your girlfriends or for your special someone.</p><p><strong>Handmade with love:</strong> Hello Neighbor is a nonprofit organization supporting recently resettled refugee families by matching them with Pittsburghers. We launched our New Neighbor Cookie Table program in November and it&#8217;s been a huge success. We are excited to continue offering sweet treats handmade with love by local Syrian refugee mothers.</p><p>For Valentine’s Day we’re offering a sample package featuring four different sweets:</p><p><strong>Basbousa</strong> is a traditional Middle Eastern sweet cake. It’s made from cooked semolina or farina soaked in simple syrup, orange flower water or rose water can also be added.</p><p><strong>Ghoriba</strong> is a round shortbread cookie made with flour, sugar, butter, and usually almonds. It is often served with Arab coffee or mint tea. It has been around in the Greater Syria area, Iraq, and other Arab countries since ancient times.</p><p><strong>Kanafeh</strong> is a traditional Arab dessert made with fine semolina dough, soaked in a sweet, sugar based syrup, and typically layered with cheese, or with other ingredients like clotted cream or nuts, depending on the region.</p><p><strong>Osh El Bulbul</strong> is very fine stringy dough wrapped around pistachios or cashews and lightly fried. The name translates to ‘bird’s nest’ in English, as it’s circular shape and filamentary structure closely resemble that of a bird’s nest. It is one of the most important dishes in most celebrations and is a specialty of Hama and Aleppo in Syria.</p><p><strong>Packaging:</strong> Each box includes a story from one of our bakers, information on the sweets and little bit about Hello Neighbor.</p><p><strong>Giving Back:</strong> $.75 of every dollar goes towards the Syrian baker herself.
