Pittsburgh Steeler Helps Refugees & Immigrants Through Hello Neighbor Partnership Defensive Lineman, Larry Ogunjobi, is showing love and support for our new neighbors with the help of Hello Neighbor.
Larry Ogunjobi, defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, took some time out of his busy schedule to give back to the local refugee & immigrant community!
Larry hosted a heartwarming and charitable dinner for 20 refugee and immigrant families who received support through Hello Neighbor on December 13, 2024 at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.
Families from diverse backgrounds gathered together to enjoy a delicious dinner catered by Chaykhana and an evening of connection, support, and community. For many, it was a chance to bond and share experiences as they navigate the challenges of rebuilding their lives in a new country.
Larry Ogunjobi shared, "My parents came here with nothing. They built a life here, moved here to get a better life. I want to make sure I am able to give it back because my parents instilled such a good example in me of that…It's just all about giving back. It's what we all should do." Larry’s parents immigrated from Nigeria, and their journey has deeply inspired him to give back and make a positive impact in our community.
In addition to the dinner, Ogunjobi continued his philanthropic efforts with Hello Neighbor by covering the cost of groceries for 35 additional families that have recently resettled in Pittsburgh.

This year, Ogunjobi was selected as the Pittsburgh Steelers' nominee for the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award , which recognizes an NFL player for their excellence in community service and charitable work, as well as their on-field performance.
In the spirit of the holiday season, Ogunjobi’s actions serve as a reminder of the profound impact we can have when we come together to support one another. Through his generosity, he is showing that even small acts of kindness can transform lives.
