Our annual Potluck gathered new neighbors from around the world to share culture through food and play. This year we hosted over 400 members of our community in Highland Park! What a spread we had - food covered nearly every inch of 3 folding tables and a serving bar. Kids (and adults) had the opportunity to climb inside a real fire truck, draw with chalk, and play favorite lawn games.

Two soccer coaches from Open Field led games all afternoon, while the Union Project’s Wheel Mobile gave kids the opportunity to try spinning a pot and to build flowers out of clay. Staff from the Children’s Museum helped kids add links to a paper chain, writing or drawing something they love on each link. There were free doll-sized hijabs courtesy of Hello Hijab, lawn-sized chess thanks to Queen’s Gambit, and basil to pot and take home, donated by Grow Pittsburgh. 

All of this took a gargantuan effort from our Hello Neighbor team, volunteers, and the Young Professionals board, who organized and led many of the activities.

Fun Fact: 

The “potluck” is  a unique U.S. American tradition, something that doesn’t exist around the world. In most languages, there is no translation for the word!
