<article class="content"> <h2>The First Pittsburgh Winner!</h2> <p>July 16, 2020 — We have big news to share today. Like really big news. We have received a <a href="https://www.therenewalproject.com/2020-renewal-awards-winners/">2020 Renewal Award</a> from <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/">The Atlantic</a> and <a href="https://www.allstate.com/">Allstate</a>!</p> <p>Hello Neighbor was selected as <strong>one of five winners</strong> out of 13,000 nominees to receive this honor. This national competition—now in its fifth year—recognizes local nonprofit organizations driving positive change in their communities.</p> <p>As a winner, we will also receive <strong>$40,000 over two years</strong> to further our mission and accelerate our work in supporting refugees and creating more welcoming communities.</p> <p>You might have seen that just a few weeks ago we celebrated our third birthday! To receive this award and be recognized in this way is a huge honor that we do not take lightly. <a href="https://www.helloneighbor.io/our-collective-impact">Read more about our impact</a>.</p> <p>Huge congratulations to the other winners. Check out in the incredible impact these organizations are having in their local communities:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Choose 180</strong> (Burien, Washington): Engages with youth in the criminal justice system to offer guidance and mentorship and helps them make positive changes in their lives. Choose 180 is this year’s Allstate Youth Empowerment Award Winner.</li> <li><strong>College to Congress</strong> (Washington, D.C.): Levels the playing field and fosters bipartisanship for Congressional interns, providing an opportunity for high-achieving students who otherwise would not be able to accept such an internship.</li> <li><strong>Facing Homelessness</strong> (Seattle): The BLOCK Project builds 125-square-foot accessory dwelling units for homeless neighbors in willing homeowners’ backyards.</li> <li><strong>More than Words</strong> (Waltham, Massachusetts): Provides on-the-job training and business skills for at-risk youth in the Boston Area. They learn valuable life skills by helping to run a real book business.</li> </ul> <p>We’d love to show The Atlantic and Allstate our thanks.
