We work to break barriers of social isolation by matching refugees with dedicated neighbors to guide and support them in their new lives in Pittsburgh.</p> <p>With the help of supporters like you, in just two and a half years, Hello Neighbor has <a href="https://www.helloneighbor.io/program">matched 95 refugee families</a> from 12 different countries (over 500 moms, dads and kids) with local Pittsburgh mentors. We experienced significant growth in 2018 alone, including the start of the New Neighbor Cookie Table, a food social enterprise where refugee women bake a signature sweet from their culture and $.75 of every dollar goes directly to the bakers to help support their families. We’ve <a href="https://www.helloneighbor.io/food-social-enterprise">hosted community dinners</a> around the city that bring people together and provide financial opportunities to refugees, started a new program called <a href="https://www.helloneighbor.io/advocate-program">Smart Start for Refugee Moms and Children</a>, focused on the most vulnerable in our community, and <a href="https://www.helloneighbor.io/big-news-announcing-the-launch-of-our-first-national-cohort">launched a national network</a> to support new neighbors in communities across the country.</p> <p><strong>Our work is just beginning, and we need your help.</strong></p> <p>Your donations support the growth and continuation of our mentorship program, which places a special focus on women and children. All of our families have been in the United States between 6 months and 5 years, and have children under the age of 18 in the home. While they are currently working and striving to succeed, starting over is hard and all of our families do live on or below the poverty.
