Thank you and stay tuned for future ordering opportunities!</em></p> <p>We’re excited to announce that due to an overwhelming response to our Thanksgiving New Neighbor Cookie Table, we are partnering again with our Syrian mothers for a second round of baklava!</p> <p>This could be your last chance since we’ll be offering up some different sweet treats for you to give your Valentine’s Day sweetheart (or keep for yourself)!</p> <p>Orders will be taken on a first come, first serve basis, so make sure to get yours in early.</p> <p><strong>Handmade with love:</strong>&nbsp;Hello Neighbor is a nonprofit organization supporting recently resettled refugee families with Pittsburghers. Pittsburgh is known for its cookies tables and so in a very Pittsburgh way, we have started our own cookie table program. This season, we are selling baklava handmade by the mothers of our Syrian families. Each order includes a story of one of our bakers, more information about Hello Neighbor and your sweet treat.</p> <p><strong>Packaging:</strong> We package the baklava in boxes of two dozen each. Each box includes a story from one of our bakers, more information about Hello Neighbor and storage tips for your sweet treat. This is a perfect holiday gift for your friends, family and coworkers!</p> <p><strong>Why:</strong>&nbsp;Many of our Syrian moms are amazing bakers. They have a hard time working outside of the home since so many of them have young children not yet in school. We started ordering baklava for our events and it made everyone so happy! The women are so appreciative&nbsp;and it’s really delicious homemade baklava. Surprise your friends, family and&nbsp;coworkers with homemade baklava.</p> <p><strong>What is baklava:</strong>&nbsp;A sweet Middle Eastern treat of walnuts and sugar in between layers of crispy phyllo dough, finished with warm drizzles of butter and syrup.</p> <p><strong>Giving back:</strong>&nbsp;$.75 of every dollar goes towards the Syrian baker herself. Thank you for all you are doing.”</em></p> <p><strong>Baklava</strong> has a really lengthy shelf life, lasting about 2+ weeks. It should be stored in an airtight container, either in room temperature or in the fridge. Storing in room temperature will preserve the crispness. If you like your baklava chewy and a bit harder, store it in the refrigerator. Baklava has a unique moistness to it, so you’ll know it’s nearing the end of its shelf life when it starts to dry out.</p> </article>
